Hi. Could you, please, update this template according to this book? This template really should be entirely in Abkhaz language. Good job so far! You can also see this template I did some years ago.

Sandboxes

Hello, Nart. I would like to delete the sandboxes you and others from your party made for your translations. Only the completed ones like Napoleon. Basically they are now duplicate texts and they leave some residues behind which cause problems I encountered as an admin. May I?

Hello Lucas,
Of course, If I knew how to get rid of them, I would have!

Please, do not create Infobox (акарточка) templates like that, copying everything from ru wiki. The basis for such a template is: Ашаблон:Акарточка, which is quite a lot different than their counterparts on other wikipedias. Instead, use f.e. this as the source inspiration: Ашаблон:Акарточка Аҳәынҭқарра. Thank you.

Good. I deleted the teplate. Now, just create a new template in this form: Ашаблон:Акарточка апланета . And the basic infrastructure is within the Акарточка Аҳәынҭқарра. Now, you only need to adapt it for planets, according to what is in the russian version, but this time you will use the abkhaz wikipedia codes from the start.

I see you are very eager to do the real job here, as well as being very active. Maybe you might want to become the next admin. My current tenure ends on August 15. This would enable you much more freedom to do your job. Would you like to become one?
Yes, indeed that would give my team more freedom. Is there any steps I should follow?
For now, just work.... and "LEARN". Ask if something is not clear to you.
And also help me with some small things. Like, from time to time, you may visit Арҽеира Ҿыцқәа. There you can see all the changes made by you and by the other by users. However, some of them are vandals, spammers and some people with destructive intents. If you see anything like that, just notify me. Patroling is a very important admin's job and you would need to get these habits before you become one. If anybody do the mess, you may help me with reverting their edits in the section "аҭоурых" in said page just by clicking few buttons there. If they spam new pages with nonsense and obvious spam, just add that delete template if I am not fast enough. ;-) That way you'll get some experience which is necessary.
Also, you may want to get to know professor Tamila Arshba. She's a teacher at the Sukhum State University. One or two years ago she had led another group of dedicated wikipedians and she provided me a lot of help with my categorization project. But sadly, they haven't been contributing anymore as the entire group had been forced to focus on their own personal and financial issues... But I am sure she would provide you a different kind of insight I can't, she definitely is hard-working woman. Should you go and visit her, let me know, I will notify her so she would expect your visit. If you make such a friendship, perhaps you may succeed where I have no chance... to coax students to start their own work on Abkhaz Wikipedia. I can't do that myself. I was in Abkhazia just once, 9 years ago for 5 days. Now it is very difficult to enter your country. Very difficult to get to Russia, to get to Abkhazia from Georgia is utterly outta question. The communications are down, planes haven't flown to Russia from the Czech republic for years. Furthermore, I would need to keep such a trip a secret due to widespread antirussian propaganda and politics in my country and a national/international antirussian mania. And there are other risks... mainly security. Just like recently in Tuapse, those Ukrainian drone attacks on rafineries. Moreover, the Russians could view me as a sort of a spy and not let me cross the borders at all, or worse. :-(
Maybe, later I will introduce you to a previous admin, Surprizi. He lives in Қарҭ and visited Аԥсны in the past as well, but he can't now (they probably wouldn't let him in, and also he has not enough money for such a trip right now). But he speaks quite well your language and has lots of experience too.
Anyway, I hope you will grow up to be more than a decent admin soon. In the summer I will tell you what to do. There is a procedure for that you must follow.
I appreciate your message, Lucas — it felt warm and heartfelt.
Regarding the first part, I'll definitely need your guidance, and I'll help you as much as I can. I noticed the spamming in the edit history of some articles. I'm thinking of putting together a dedicated team for the Abkhazian Wikipedia and using admin privileges to fully protect certain articles — like Napoleon — the way the Russian Wikipedia does. That's one way to fight vandalism.
I know Tamila; we worked together for years at one point. I was actually supposed to be on the project you mentioned, but I decided to leave because of some disagreements with her. I like and respect her, and I think she likes me too — we just couldn't work things out. I could try to bring her back into this project, though I doubt she'd agree.
I'm actually Circassian, not Abkhazian. I lived in Abkhazia for several years and only recently returned to Jordan. My family is from the 1864 post-war diaspora, so I also understand the tensions along the borders — not a pleasant experience.
If Surprizi can find me someone willing to volunteer to translate a small dataset into Mingrelian for Google, that would be great — there might then be a real chance of adding it to Google Translate. Either way, I'm happy with friendship :) Nart17 (ахцәажәара) 21:46, 10 рашәарамза 2026 (UTC)Ответить

Hello. Please, when creating new templates, you must leave behind a documentation. Simply by adding <noinclude>{{doc}}</noinclude> to the bottom of the template code. And of course, proceed with creating such a documentation for that template. It now seems like you started to omit "{{doc}}" and to leave the empty linking <noinclude></noinclude> behind. Such little overlooks might end up biting you later. I know that from my own experience.

Okay, duly noted.
Good. Now, let's look into 3 things:
1) Ашаблон:ВС. This template is already there, called ВС using the external links module seems to me like an obsolete solution. Earlier, I adapted "authority control" from cs and en wikipedia to the Abkhaz and it functions quite well ever since, needing only some updates in a relevant module from time to time. But ВС has something Авторитет змоу адыррақәа does not. Shall we try to merge these to into one?
2) Abkhaz words mostly begin with А-. It makes life difficult when searching through categories. As a solution, we have the template {{DEFAULTSORT:}}. For example, you will want the page Афольклор to be sorted not according to А, but according to Ф. To make it so, you need to add {{DEFAULTSORT:фольклор}} to the bottom of the page. It can be placed anywhere, but the preference is placing defaultsort above the categories links. But be aware, that most words starting with Аи- (like Аиҭаира, Аибашьра, Аимадара etc...) must be sorted according to А. The only exceptions to this rule are the loanwords like аинформациа which should be sorted according to И; and words in which you do not omit А if you add some grammar forms like mine, your, our etc., for example Аруаа -> Ҳаруаа. The sorting must remain according to А and you do not need Defaultsort in these cases.
3) Categories. As a rule, every page on wikipedia must be sorted in at least one category: [[Акатегориа:]]. If such a category does not exist yet, you must create it. This is where the sorting from point 2 applies. There are lots of kinds of categories, as you may have noticed in your pages when I added them. I usually make them according to the english wikipedia, but also sometimes according to the russian. But I prefer the english as it is more refined and comlete. You just add them by quick peek to those foreign wikipedias, clicking on these categories there and to see, whether such a category already exists there on Abkhaz wikipedia. Most of categories here have been made by me and as I am not a fluent user of the language, I know there may be mistakes, either grammatical or poor wording. Let me know if you find something odd/wrong.
I will study these points, and get back to you.
Hi Lucas, Let me know what you think, if all good, I will move with implementation.
Three forward-only workstreams:
1 · Authority control — merge into the ВС engine
Two parallel systems exist: our deployed (133 properties, Abkhaz-localized, in 500 articles) and the idle (External-links engine, ~895 properties, 0 articles).
- Keep our template name, swap its engine to invoke:External links → all 500 articles switch automatically, zero article edits.
- Measured caveat: ВС is not a superset — it covers only 57 of our 133 properties. The other 76 must be ported into Амодуль:External links/data first, or those articles silently lose those identifiers.
- Steps: build the named 76-property list → port them with Abkhaz labels → rewire template (keep Abkhaz box title) → check-render a sample of the 500 →  alias ВС → localize ВС's Russian labels incrementally.
2 · DEFAULTSORT — root-form sorting from the dictionary, each new page gets DEFAULTSORT:<root>.
3 · Every article properly categorized modeled on the English Wikipedia (Russian as backup) anything that looks grammatically off in existing categories gets flagged.
Hello, Daniel.
1) Merging them might be tricky. As far as I remember, the External link module and its template never worked properly on ab wiki and I had to replace it with External link module caused huuuuge leaks which caused failures in displaying of some bigger pages. I tested the ВС template on some pages without saving them and it still seems buggy right now.
2) I already thought of something like that but I dropped such an idea. There would be too many exceptions and dealing with them would be more time consuming than writing the {{DEFAULTSORT:something_without_А}} manually.
3) You can do that by creating a message on the discusion page of such category.
Regarding all the above points, thankfully we have AI agents who help in the heavy lifting, I just have to inject those tasks in the pipeline, so far with some fine tuning the AI is capable of getting things done, so we'll just have to wait and see.
That explains one of my concerns.
Look again on the pages you and your friends made. What that AI bot did (or whatever tool you use). There are lots of red-marked links to the pages yet to be made; click on those links and see what the language of the titles is for yourself.
Yes, I'm aware of that. The red links are intentional — they mark pages that may be created in the future. The titles haven't been decided yet in Abkhazian, so we have a few options. We could decide on titles now for pages that may or may not ever be created, which is impractical and costly. We could remove the red links entirely, but then we'd lose the parallel links to the Russian articles. Or we could keep them to encourage the creation of those future pages, choosing each title at the time the page is actually made.
I'd really appreciate it if we could keep the tone a bit more positive going forward — I think it'll help us get to a better result together. When the vibe feels off, it gets hard to make any real progress. Thanks so much!
True. I apologize for being too sharp the last time. I wrote it upon my return from my job, quite tired, nervous from my new assignment and little in pain, but that does not excuse me. :-)) Good that you have plans for making those links right at a later time.
Thanks for sharing Lucas. I hear you, I keep my sanity one day at a time 😅
Come to think of it, maybe we should remove all the dead links for now. We can always inject them later, once we decide to take on the work of bringing those links to life. That said, one thing worries me: the articles will look sterile with so few links. We'll see.
I think we can wait a bit until you come to a solution with the translation of those titles. The same idea as you have now was made by somebody else who was obstinately refusing to have the links red, non-existing. After he created a new page, he then proceeded with making such links in all the other pages anew. In my opinion, what he did was a waste of time, and also he did not understand the essence of Wikipedia. If someone sees a red link to a non-existing page, it may prompt him/her to write said page.

Hello. This template is from Russian wikipedia; but it is used there to direct users to other on-topic wiki-projects like wiktionary, wikibooks, wikiquote. However, there is none of these with Abkhaz language and probably won't be in neither near future, nor in the more distant future. These Abkhaz language wiktionary, wikibooks, wikiquote existed in the past but were absolutely empty and the main admins on wikimedia decided to delete them completely. Could you remake this template in a way that it redirects the links to the Russian language version instead of non-existing Abkhaz? Or should I once I have a time?

Hello Lucas, I was assuming the other projects will be revived in Abkhazian, but if this seems far fetched and it doesn't make sense to include this template in articles, then I'll just start omitting it out, this is the cheapest solution. We could just keep it as is for now, but not include in articles until further notice.
Ok, ommiting the template is a good option too.
In my opinion, to have these sister project in Abkhaz meaningfully would require hundreds of additional people participating. And now, it is just me, you and other two friends of yours, and some rare occurences who show up from time to time.

Bold

Hello. Please, the name at the beginning must be bold in 99,9999 % of all the pages. I corrected it here. Also you should take into account the trickiness of etymology/other languages; such a section needs to be done with more care than just a translation from the Russian. Russian wikipedia has russian point of view etymology-wise, however, Abkhaz is not Russian.

Hello Lucas, yes the beginning should always be bold.
Etymology, I'll pass the message to the translators.

Invitation to try the Starter Kit Tool

Greetings!

As one of the active editors on this Wikipedia, you're invited by the Language Onboarding and Development initiative to learn about the Starter Kit, try it out, and join a virtual meeting where you can ask questions about the tool.
What the tool does
The Starter Kit helps small or new Wikipedia contributors complete essential tasks, like importing infoboxes, tracking your wiki's growth and health metrics, and connecting with members of the broader Wikimedia community for technical guidance. Some features require certain user rights, but three of the six tasks are open to any autoconfirmed editor, so most active editors can get started right away.

Here's what we would like you to do:

Thank you so much for using the tool, and we look forward to your attending the virtual meeting.

Best regards,
